First, a person needs to go to grocery store to purchase the raw ingredients, which usually takes fifteen to twenty minutes. Next, raw ingredients like onions and ground meat need to be cut and flavored that takes around ten minutes. The cooking process needs ten more minutes. A home cooked hamburger tak es more than thirty minutes in total. Even Jamie Oliver can only create a fifteen minutes fast recipe. Due to a huge workload of urban people, they would prefer to use less time to get the similar food, so the dependency of the consumers over fast food is high in the entire globe. Undoubtedly fast food is fast, but it is not the best food option. Since fast food meal is convenient, people may misunderstand that the cost of fast food meal is cheaper; however, it is not. Thus, work needs to become as organised and productive as it possibly can, due to the numerous people involved in it, and division of labour must be assigned properly in order to bring out the best results. However, it was not until the beginning of the 20th century when such needs were attended to. One of the earliest guiding principles that sprang out from the need for workers to become as productive as possible while helping the employer save money is by implementing new strategies that were scientifically-made and can be tested using scientific methods. This kind of workplace management known as is Scientific Management, was developed by Frederick Taylor around the turn of the 20th century in order to advance the methods used in work and make even workers of any skill level to become even more productive (Taylor, 1939, p. 280). While it was a big step in moving from highly-traditional work and management methods to a much more modern and scientific one, its beginnings were ne vertheless controversial, and may even have reversed its original aims (Watson, 2008, p. 31). Also, Scientific Management is seen as one of the earliest blueprints of modernisation and automation of work, yet by somewhat dehumanising the workers and leaning towards the removal of jobs altogether like in automation of factories, and in a way cancels out one of its aims: making human workers even more efficient (Watson, 2008, p. 32). These, among many reasons were the cause of the abandonment of the use of scientific management, as well as deriving new ideas and disciplines out of it. Thus the evolution of the scientific management as the result of 19th century industrial practices may have no relevance to the present day needs of work places and organisations due to the changed needs, strategies and goals of management. Foundations and Goals of Scientific Management Frederick Taylor is the person credited for the creation of the principles of Scientific Management, which went out in public around the year 1911. He was able to come up with the ideas for changing traditional work methods into modernised and simplified actions that do not need additional efforts in skill-building, as opposed to craftsmen undergoing apprenticeship to learn the ropes (Pitsis, Clegg, and Kornberger, 2011, p. 25). Westgate Bridge Collapse Engineering The West Gate Bridge fell down on the 15th of October in 1970, it was caused by a few half girders on the west part of the bridge that didnt fit. They attempted to fix this with an unusual method which made the situation worse. The bridge buckled and eventually collapsed. It killed the workers while they were on break and only a few were left alive. Introduction The West Gate Bridge started construction in 1968 and was the second longest bridge in Australia. The building process was going well at first though an unusual method was being used throughout the project. About 2 years into construction, problems began to show. There was an imbalance between several steel girders which made them not fix into position. Some engineers proposed putting 10 concrete blocks which weighed 8 tons individually, on each of the girders to put them into place which caused the bridge to buckle. Background The company Freeman Fox Partners was in charge of build and this was their 20th bridge.Some of their previous works were The Adome Bridge, Humber Bridge, Erskine Bridge, and Forth Road Bridge. The West Gate Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia which spanned over the Yarra River north of Port Phillip and is an important link to the inner city. Investigation For the most part, the investigation was mostly interviewing survivors and explaining what happened. The blame was mostly on the engineer who designed it and the engineers who ordered the concrete blocks. Findings It was found that Ward, aka Freeman Fox Partners were responsible for giving the designs.The bridge was built unevenly and they tried to put concrete blocks on the girders. Their measurements were fixed in the rebuild and there were no problems during the process. Conclusion It was structural engineer fault due to the failure of measuring properly and allowing to fixing the problem with concrete bricks, which resulted in the bridge buckling. The mess was cleaned up almost immediately. The ambulance got the injured, the firefighters put out the fire and the construction crew cleaned up the wreckage and started over. The bridge was reopened to the public in 1978. You perceive she stirs: --The Winter's Tale (V.iii.98-103) à Unlike most of Shakespeare's earlier plays, The Winter's Tale moves from tragedy to comedy. The disastrous consequences of Leontes' jealousy and tyranny are resolved by the passing of time. Only after sixteen years can the two royal families come together again. Time also plays a significant role in the reading of the chosen passage. The passage is full of commas, colons, semi-colons, and periods, which force the lines to be slowed and pausing. The frequent punctuations draw the reader's attention to time and its effects on the words being spoken by the characters. The scansion of the passage illustrates Shakespeare's mastery of time as he manipulates the rhythm of the lines using varying foots and meters. Time seems to be the crucial element in not only the scansion of this passage, but in the development of the play as a whole. à Line ninety-eight begins with a half-line consisting of only two feet, "No foot shall stir." The brevity of the line and the slowness of the opening spondee help to create the tension before Paulina attempts to summon the statue of Hermione. Leontes wants everyone to stand still while Paulina tries to give life to the statue. He says, "No foot shall stir" (98). Meanwhile, the metrical feet in line ninety-eight do "stir" as the pentameter is broken up into two ha... ...vidual from imminent danger. Gun Control â⬠the right solution?! Essay
Is gun control really the right solution to gun abuse? Will this really be effective? Will the American society be safer when guns are banned? Though there are many questions, there is only one answer: NO!! Liberals have tried to argue that banning guns from civilians is the best way to solve this problem. However, this is not the right way to solve this problem for many reasons:First, to get facts straight, guns do not kill people; people kill people 100% of all homicides are committed by people. Secondly, banning would only leave criminals with guns, since they obtain them illegally anyway and law-abiding citizens would have no means of protection. Criminals now are committing less violent crimes that have minimal contact with people, knowing the fact that they might own guns, so if guns are banned criminals would commit more violent crimes. Banning guns would give the government complete control over the people, by stripping them from their natural rights. Lastly, guns have caused more benefit than harm. According to statistics, in 2005 gun ownership by citizens had stopped 2 out of 3 rapes. The majority of people want gun ownership, polls in 2006 have shown that about 86.25% of Americans do not want guns banned. Second, guns mostly used by law-abiding citizen have mostly been used for self-defense. Mr. Thomas Harrison, 60, says One time a robber broke into our house and tried to molest my daughter fortunately I got my gun from my drawer and popped a cap right into his knee. Guns are weapons of oppression, if guns were banned only oppressors would have guns and the oppressed would even be more miserable. The founding fathers of this nation have made the right to bear arms in the Second Amendment; the same founding fathers who set up a government that still runs and functions as they envisioned. These founding fathers died and sacrificed themselves for the American people so that they keep their natural rights and now these so called liberals want to change this right just because they think its harmful. If the American people actually let them do this what else, would the government try to extort from the peoples natural rights?Third, the problem with guns is that people are not ethically and morally behaved. If schools educated their students about guns and their consequences, most shots might not have been fired. Second, if parents were more responsible keeping weapons away form their children, and raised their children in the proper and right way,Ã Americans would probably not have these problems. Guns should not be banned instead, they should be hard to find and obtain. Though this might sound strange, bullet, and shell prices should increase so that they are not affordable. Furthermore, background checks should be more thorough, and gun purchasers should take a safety course and be officially certified by the government. In addition, bulletproof vests should be more available for workers in banks and other work places where valuables are stored. Moreover, schools should start teaching students how to cope with life, so that the new generation might have a chance in living in a peaceful society or era. Hopefully, if these suggestions and policies are followed the crime and homicide rate in the United States will drop by an estimated 35%. Liberals and gun control supporters might say that guns are the major weapons of murder and crime and that if banned crime would decrease. This is not true because some criminals will obtain these weapons illegally or use other types of weapons in order to commit their crimes. Once again, people kill people not guns or any other type of weapons. The answer to this problem is education not violation. Employment and Natalie Essay
Natalie Attired worked at Biddyââ¬â¢s for one year when she was fired for getting a sleeve tattoo on her upper right arm. Natalie was fired because Ms. Biddy claimed that she her appearance was disturbing the clients while they were trying to eat. There is no employee manual or written policy about employee conduct. Natalie while for unemployment in July 2010 but was denied because she was terminated for ââ¬Å"misconduct.â⬠Biddyââ¬â¢s has been in for over 20 years and is run by Biddy Baker, age 60. Biddy evaluates her waitressââ¬â¢ performance every three months. Questions Presented: Was Natalieââ¬â¢s tattoo in fact a distraction to the customers in the restaurant? Were there any guidelines in place that would in fact tell Natalie that she was in violation of the dress code? Did Ms. Biddy talk to her employee about how she wants there to present themselves while at work? Brief Answers: Two customers complained that Natalieââ¬â¢s tattoo was distracting. There were not any guidelines or employee handbook that stated was acceptable or not acceptable. Ms. Biddy did evaluate her employees every 3 months but in the evaluations she did not state how she wanted her employees to present themselves. Analysis: According to the definition of misconduct as stated above Ms. Attried did not in fact get fired for misconduct she did in fact get fired because Ms. Biddy felt her tattoo was a hinder to her business. In Natalieââ¬â¢s evaluations she was evaluated as a good employee who just needed to learn a few things to get her job skills up to par. Nowhere is it stated that she did anything to make her employer have to take negative action against her. She was always on time for work, she was pleasant with the customers, and she usually gets all the orders. Conclusion: Natalie was wrongly denied her unemployment benefits because she does not fit the criteria to be denied because of misconduct. She did perform her job to the best or her knowledge and there was no handbook to ensure that she was wrong about getting the tattoo. If Ms. Biddy wants her employees to conduct themselves a certain way she should provide guideline to ensure that they in fact know what is expected of them. Natalie should be able to receive her benefits and should have them backtracked to her original file date of unemployment.
